James G. Elkins Sr.

James G. Elkins Sr., 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:00 P.M., Friday, July 20, 2001 at his residence.
Jim was a retired real estate broker. He had owned and operated A-1 Cleaners from1934 to 1965. He had been a broker and appraiser at Elkins Real Estate from 1965 to 1991. He was a member of the Du Quoin First Baptist Church for 70 years. He hosted Gospel Singing Time in Little Egypt over WDQN radio in Du Quoin for 26 years. Jim founded the Harmonairs Quartet in 1952. He was a charter member of the Du Quoin Kiwanis Club and a member for over 30 years. He was a member of the Du Quoin Lions Club for a number of years. Jim had been named the Du Quoin Rotary Club Man of the Year. He was a member of the Egyptian Board of Realtors and was involved in many real estate and brokers organizations.
He was born December 1, 1912 at Mulkeytown, IL the son of James G. and Ethel (Parks) Elkins.
He married Leona K. Wohlwend on January 5, 1938 at Benton, IL she passed away January 4, 1999.
He is survived by two sons- James G. Elkins Jr. and wife Doris of Tempe, AZ, Dr. John G. Elkins and wife Phyllis of Columbia, SC, four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
